Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to rendering services.
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10 and CPT guidelines.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance payers (commercial and government) via clearinghouses.
- Follow up on unpaid claims, appeal denials, and resubmit claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Maintain patient accounts and resolve billing discrepancies or inquiries.
- Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal privacy policies.
- Collaborate with the billing team to optimize revenue cycle performance.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing or medical office administration.
- Certification such as CPC, CBCS, or RHIT is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in EMR/Billing software (e.g., AthenaHealth, Epic, Cerner, or NextGen).
- Strong working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines.
- Excellent analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy in data entry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for patient interaction.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a high-volume setting.
