Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing equipment, arranging instruments, and verifying sterile fields
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, sutures, and sterile supplies
- Maintain accurate surgical counts and documentation according to hospital protocols
- Handle specimens for laboratory analysis and ensure proper disposal of biohazardous materials
- Coordinate with anesthesia teams and circulating nurses to ensure seamless surgical workflows
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current with surgical techniques
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
- Minimum 1 year recent experience in acute care surgical setting
- Graduate of accredited surgical technology program
- BLS/CPR certification with current provider status
- Knowledge of sterile processing standards and AORN guidelines
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
