Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient insurance eligibility and coverage details to ensure accuracy.
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance carriers (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial) via electronic clearinghouse.
- Monitor claim status, follow up on unpaid claims, and manage denial appeals effectively.
- Maintain accurate patient accounts and financial records within the EMR/EHR system.
- Communicate billing inquiries and statements to patients in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal auditing standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing/Coding preferred.
- Certification (CPC, CCS, CBCS, or similar) is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner) is a plus.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
