Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing instruments and setting up specialized equipment according to surgical protocols
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, sutures, and sterile supplies with precision
- Maintain sterile fields throughout operations and enforce aseptic techniques to prevent infections
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures to ensure completeness
- Transport patients to and from surgical suites while monitoring vital signs and comfort
- Document all perioperative activities using electronic health record systems
- Manage biohazard waste disposal and equipment sterilization processes
- Collaborate with anesthesia and nursing teams to optimize surgical workflow efficiency
Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
- Minimum 2 years of recent OR experience in general surgery or subspecialty
- Expert knowledge of sterile processing and sterilization validation
- Ability to stand continuously for 4+ hours during procedures
- Proficiency in electronic documentation systems (Epic/Electronic health records)
- BLS/CPR certification with ability to obtain ACLS within 90 days
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations as needed
