Responsibilities
- Prepare and dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Verify patient information, including drug allergies and current medication profiles, to prevent adverse drug interactions.
- Manage pharmacy inventory, including receiving shipments, stocking shelves, and monitoring expiration dates.
- Provide superior customer service by answering patient questions and resolving prescription concerns professionally.
- Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations, state pharmacy laws, and hospital safety protocols.
- Assist in the compounding of medications and handling over-the-counter product recommendations.
- Process insurance claims, handle copay transactions, and maintain accurate digital records.
Qualifications
- Current, unencumbered Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) is required.
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program is a plus.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical terminology, dosage calculations, and drug interactions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on patient empathy.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume pharmacy setting.
- Valid Maryland State Pharmacy Technician License.
- Familiarity with pharmacy management software (e.g., Cerner, McKesson) is preferred.
