Responsibilities
- Specimen Collection: Perform accurate and safe venipunctures and capillary draws for patients of all ages.
- Patient Care: Interact professionally with patients, ensuring a comfortable and reassuring experience during the blood draw process.
- Data Entry: Verify patient identity and accurately enter patient data and specimen information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and store blood specimens to ensure chain of custody integrity.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain a clean, sterile, and organized work area; perform routine maintenance on phlebotomy equipment.
- Quality Assurance: Adhere strictly to all HIPAA regulations, OSHA safety standards, and laboratory protocols.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current Phlebotomy certification (e.g., CPT, ASCP, NHA, or equivalent) required.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and infection control procedures.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to de-escalate patient anxiety.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
