Responsibilities
- Specimen Collection: Perform venipunctures, capillary draws, and arterial blood gas collections with precision and minimal patient discomfort.
- Patient Interaction: Demonstrate excellent communication skills to explain procedures to patients, alleviate anxiety, and ensure a positive patient experience.
- Quality Control: Strictly adhere to laboratory safety protocols, HIPAA guidelines, and CLIA regulations to ensure specimen integrity and patient privacy.
- Equipment Maintenance: Properly maintain, clean, and troubleshoot phlebotomy equipment and supplies to ensure operational efficiency.
- Data Entry: Accurately log patient information and specimen details into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and EMR.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and order phlebotomy supplies to ensure the laboratory is fully stocked and operational at all times.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
- Licensure: Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, ASPT, NHA) is required. Valid NC Phlebotomy license preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology; proficiency in venipuncture techniques.
- Soft Skills: High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform fine motor skills.
