Responsibilities

  • Specimen Collection: Perform venipunctures, capillary draws, and arterial blood gas collections with precision and minimal patient discomfort.
  • Patient Interaction: Demonstrate excellent communication skills to explain procedures to patients, alleviate anxiety, and ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Quality Control: Strictly adhere to laboratory safety protocols, HIPAA guidelines, and CLIA regulations to ensure specimen integrity and patient privacy.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Properly maintain, clean, and troubleshoot phlebotomy equipment and supplies to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Data Entry: Accurately log patient information and specimen details into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and EMR.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
  • Licensure: Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, ASPT, NHA) is required. Valid NC Phlebotomy license preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.
