Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Collect blood samples from patients via venipuncture and capillary puncture methods with precision and minimal discomfort.
- Patient Interaction: Demonstrate excellent bedside manner, explain procedures clearly to patients, and ensure a calm and comfortable environment during draws.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport blood specimens to the laboratory in accordance with strict quality control and safety protocols.
- Record Keeping: Accurately document patient information, test results, and draw details in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain phlebotomy supplies, ensuring that test kits and collection materials are always available and in date.
- Quality Assurance: Adhere to CLIA, CAP, and OSHA regulations to ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with nurses, lab technologists, and physicians to ensure seamless patient care coordination.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, NAACLP) or equivalent state licensure.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program is preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting is highly desirable.
- Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture techniques and ability to troubleshoot difficult draws.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
- Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills and comfort using EMR/EHR systems.
