Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections with precision and patient comfort
- Process and transport specimens to laboratory facilities while maintaining chain of custody
- Verify patient identity and prepare samples for analysis following HIPAA protocols
- Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment including vacutainers and centrifuges
- Document procedures accurately in electronic health record systems
- Provide patient education on pre-test preparations and post-procedure care
- Collaborate with medical staff to optimize specimen collection workflows
Qualifications
- Active Phlebotomy Technician certification (ASCP or equivalent)
- Minimum 1 year experience in hospital or clinical laboratory setting
- Valid CPR/BLS certification
- Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture techniques for diverse patient populations
- Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards and infection control protocols
- Exceptional communication skills with multilingual abilities preferred
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced emergency department environments
- Proficient in LIS/HIS systems and specimen tracking software
