Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages using aseptic technique and proper safety protocols.
- Manage patient interactions with compassion and professionalism, explaining procedures to alleviate patient anxiety.
- Label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations and laboratory safety standards.
- Verify patient identification and paperwork to ensure accuracy before sample collection.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including sterilization of equipment and restocking supplies.
- Assist with inventory management of blood collection supplies and test kits.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Phlebotomy Specialist certification required.
- 1-3 years of recent clinical experience in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Strong attention to detail and excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to lift and move patients weighing up to 50 lbs when necessary.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in computer systems for data entry and electronic medical records (EMR).
