As a Phlebotomy Tech, you will play a crucial role in the diagnostic process by accurately collecting blood samples and ensuring patient comfort.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with a focus on patient comfort and safety.
- Label, process, and transport blood specimens to the laboratory for analysis while adhering to strict chain-of-custody protocols.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records, ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
- Prepare and maintain phlebotomy equipment and workstations to ensure a sterile and efficient environment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, providing clear instructions and calming nervous patients during procedures.
- Assist in the orientation of new phlebotomy staff and trainees on departmental procedures and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of recent clinical experience in a hospital or outpatient setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Excellent manual dexterity and ability to perform venipuncture on difficult veins.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for off-site collections.
