Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Safely and efficiently collect blood samples from patients using various techniques (venipuncture, capillary puncture).
- Patient Interaction: Comfort patients during the blood draw process, explaining procedures and alleviating anxiety.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory according to strict chain-of-custody protocols.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records and log daily counts of collections.
- Equipment Maintenance: Sanitize and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies to ensure safety and compliance.
- Compliance: Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and hospital infection control policies at all times.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current Phlebotomy Technician certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA, or equivalent) required.
- Licensure: New Jersey State Phlebotomy license or eligibility to obtain one.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program is a plus.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of anatomy, venipuncture techniques, and medical terminology.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
