Responsibilities
- Perform accurate blood draws (venipuncture and capillary) using proper aseptic technique and safety protocols.
- Prepare blood samples for testing and ensure proper labeling and documentation.
- Interact professionally and compassionately with patients of all ages, explaining procedures to alleviate anxiety.
- Maintain a clean and organized phlebotomy work area, including sterilization of equipment.
- Verify patient identity and ensure all consent forms and medical records are up to date.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff and nursing teams to ensure accurate specimen handling and timely reporting.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and company policies regarding patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification required (ASCP, ASCP-BOC, or equivalent).
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent clinical phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy and venipuncture techniques.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
