Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare and submit medical claims to insurance payers (CMS-1500 and electronic).
- Monitor and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable (AR) to ensure timely collections.
- Review and analyze denied claims to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information in the EHR system.
- Manage patient billing inquiries and resolve payment discrepancies professionally.
- Reconcile monthly statements and maintain accurate billing logs.
- Collaborate with the collections department and healthcare providers to optimize revenue cycle performance.
Qualifications
- Certification as a CPC, CEM, or RHIT preferred (willing to train if highly experienced).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in medical billing or medical coding.
- In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Proficiency in using EHR/EPM systems (Epic, Athenahealth, or Cerner preferred).
- Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance and privacy regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills with a proven track record of reducing denial rates.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
