Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing equipment and arranging sterile instruments/supplies
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, retracting tissues, and maintaining sterile fields
- Count surgical sponges, needles, and instruments pre/post-procedure to ensure patient safety
- Transport patients to/from operating rooms and position them correctly for surgery
- Clean, disinfect, and restock operating rooms between cases
- Operate specialized surgical equipment (e.g., cameras, retractors, electrocautery)
- Document perioperative activities in compliance with hospital protocols
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
- Minimum 1 year recent OR experience in acute care setting
- Knowledge of sterile processing and infection control protocols
- Ability to anticipate surgeon needs during fast-paced procedures
- Excellent manual dexterity and physical stamina for 8-12 hour shifts
- BLS/CPR certification required (ACLS preferred)
- Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations
