Responsibilities
- Prepare the Operating Room: Set up sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies prior to surgical procedures to ensure readiness and safety.
- Surgical Assistance: Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, holding retractors, and counting sponges and needles to maintain patient safety.
- Maintain Sterility: Adhere to strict aseptic techniques and monitor the sterile field to prevent contamination during procedures.
- Patient Care: Monitor patients' vital signs and report any significant changes to the nursing staff or surgeon immediately.
- Documentation: Accurately document surgical procedures, instruments used, and patient observations in the medical record.
- Equipment Management: Properly clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment after procedures.
Qualifications
- Education: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Certification: Current Certified Surgical Technician (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) credentials.
- Licensure: New York State licensure or eligibility for licensure.
- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a hospital or surgical center setting preferred.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, excellent hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
