Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during operative procedures by anticipating their needs and passing instruments and sterile supplies.
- Prepare operating rooms, ensuring they are properly equipped and sterilized prior to surgery.
- Maintain a sterile field, ensuring strict aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure nothing is left in the surgical wound or on the tray.
- Handle surgical specimens accurately and transport patients safely to and from the operating suite.
- Perform dressing changes and apply sterile wound closure techniques.
- Assist with patient education and pre-operative preparation to ensure patient comfort.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or graduation from an accredited surgical technology program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Valid Arizona Surgical Technologist license (or ability to obtain within timeframe).
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- High school diploma or GED required.
