Key Responsibilities:
- Preoperative Preparation: Set up operating rooms with all necessary instruments, supplies, equipment, and positioning devices to ensure a sterile field.
- Assist Surgeons: Pass instruments and materials to surgeons and registered nurses, anticipating their needs during surgical procedures.
- Equipment Management: Monitor and ensure the proper functioning and sterilization of all surgical equipment provided by the facility.
- Tissue Handling: Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments per facility policy and handle tissue specimens accurately.
- Sterile Field Maintenance: Monitor and maintain the sterile field throughout the surgical procedure, intervening immediately if a break in sterility occurs.
- Postoperative Care: Prepare patient rooms for admission and transport patients to recovery areas as directed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient information, surgical procedures, and equipment usage.
Qualifications:
- Certification: Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a hospital or surgical center setting.
- Licensure: Active state licensure as a Surgical Technologist in Pennsylvania (LBT).
- BLS Certification: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association is mandatory.
- Skills: Proficiency with various surgical instruments, electrosurgical units, and laparoscopic equipment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
