Job Summary:
The Triage Nurse is responsible for managing incoming patient calls, assessing symptoms via telephone, and determining the urgency of care required. This role requires a high level of clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and exceptional communication skills to guide patients toward the appropriate level of care.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive phone triage assessments for patients presenting with a wide range of medical issues.
- Apply clinical decision-making skills to prioritize patient care and determine the appropriate level of service (e.g., Urgent Care, ER, Home Care).
- Document all triage interactions accurately and in compliance with HIPAA regulations and facility protocols.
- Provide patient education regarding symptoms, medications, and follow-up care instructions.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Manage high call volumes while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor and excellent patient satisfaction scores.
Qualifications
- Current and valid RN license in the state of Arizona.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of recent experience in emergency department or urgent care triage.
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on patient advocacy.
- Ability to remain composed and make quick, critical decisions under pressure.
