Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws with precision and minimal patient discomfort
- Label, process, and transport specimens to laboratory while maintaining chain of custody
- Verify patient identity and ensure HIPAA compliance at all collection points
- Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment including vacutainers and centrifuges
- Document procedures accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Provide patient education on pre-test preparation and post-procedure care
- Collaborate with lab staff to resolve specimen discrepancies
Qualifications
- Active NJ Phlebotomy Technician certification (ASCP, NHA, or equivalent)
- Minimum 1 year clinical experience in hospital or lab setting
- BLS/CPR certification from American Heart Association
- Proficiency in EHR documentation (Epic/EMR preferred)
- Strong knowledge of OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards
- Exceptional venipuncture skills for diverse patient populations
- Ability to work efficiently in high-volume environments
- Valid NJ driver's license and reliable transportation
