Responsibilities
- Review patient demographics and insurance information to verify eligibility and obtain necessary authorizations prior to services.
- Accurately assign medical codes (ICD-10 and CPT) to patient records based on provider documentation and clinical guidelines.
- Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance payers (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) electronically.
- Monitor claim status and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Manage patient billing inquiries, explain statements, and resolve account discrepancies professionally.
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and company policies regarding patient data privacy.
- Collaborate with office staff to identify and correct billing errors in the practice management system.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration or Medical Billing is preferred.
- Certification (e.g., CPC, CMB, RHIA) is a strong advantage.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, coding, or a related healthcare finance role.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and billing software (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth, NextGen).
- Deep knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and CPT/ICD-10 coding guidelines.
- Strong analytical skills with a high attention to detail to minimize errors and maximize revenue.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with patients and insurance representatives.
