Responsibilities
- Accurately code medical diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and CPT systems
- Submit electronic claims to insurance payers and track claim status
- Resolve claim denials and underpayments through effective follow-up
- Communicate with patients regarding billing inquiries and payment plans
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and billing standards
- Analyze billing data to identify trends and revenue opportunities
- Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure documentation accuracy
Qualifications
- 3+ years of medical billing experience with knowledge of insurance regulations
- Certification in medical coding (CPC, CIC, or CCS) preferred
- Proficiency in medical billing software (Epic, NextGen, or equivalent)
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of New Mexico Medicaid and Medicare guidelines
