Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and obtain necessary authorizations prior to service delivery.
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Prepare, submit, and follow up on medical claims to commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payers.
- Research and resolve complex claim denials and rejections to ensure maximum reimbursement.
- Manage patient billing inquiries and explain financial statements clearly.
- Maintain precise records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and practice management systems.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Medical Billing preferred.
- Certification as a CPC, CBCS, or RHIT is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of professional experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Extensive knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding standards.
- Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth) and billing software.
- Strong analytical skills with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
