Responsibilities
- Review medical records and assign accurate medical codes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) for billing and reimbursement.
- Submit clean claims to commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payers and track the adjudication process.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to the date of service to prevent denials.
- Manage the accounts receivable (AR) process, including follow-up on unpaid claims and submission of appeals.
- Generate patient invoices and statements; resolve billing discrepancies and patient inquiries professionally.
- Collaborate with coding and clinical teams to ensure documentation supports billing requirements.
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, federal coding guidelines, and payer contract terms.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Healthcare Billing Specialist (CHBS) preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management.
- Proficiency with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth) is highly desirable.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
