Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately perform medical coding (CPT, ICD-10) and charge entry for patient accounts.
- Submit and follow up on claims with insurance carriers (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare) to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable, identifying and resolving discrepancies or denials.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and collect necessary co-pays and deductibles.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding billing inquiries and financial responsibilities.
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal billing protocols.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth) to document billing activities.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree in Healthcare Administration or Medical Billing preferred.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Excellent computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Excel and practice management software.
- Must be detail-oriented with exceptional problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid setting.
