Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits to ensure coverage.
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using CMS-1500 forms and electronic billing (EDI).
- Monitor claim status and follow up on unpaid or rejected claims to resolve issues promptly.
- Code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and CPT guidelines accurately.
- Handle patient billing inquiries, explain statements, and resolve account discrepancies.
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and healthcare billing standards.
- Collaborate with the accounts receivable team to improve cash flow and reduce denials.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing or related field preferred.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or COC (Certified Outpatient Coder) certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in medical billing, claims processing, or medical coding.
- Strong working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding sets.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and billing software (Epic, AthenaHealth, or Cerner).
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
