Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to rendering services.
- Review medical records for accuracy and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and CPT guidelines.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance payers via both paper (CMS-1500) and electronic formats.
- Monitor claim status and follow up on denied or underpaid claims to ensure timely resolution.
- Communicate with patients and insurance carriers regarding billing inquiries and outstanding balances.
- Maintain patient files and ensure strict compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations.
- Collaborate with the front office team to resolve billing discrepancies and improve workflow efficiency.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Health Administration is preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, coding, or medical office administration.
- Proficiency with medical billing software (Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner, or Meditech).
- Strong working knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to detect errors in data entry.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
