Responsibilities
- Preoperative Preparation: Assist in preparing the operating room by setting up sterile fields, instruments, and equipment prior to surgery.
- Instrumentation: Pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies to surgeons during procedures, anticipating their needs based on the surgical plan.
- Aseptic Technique: Maintain strict sterile technique throughout the surgical process to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
- Patient Care: Position patients appropriately, monitor vital signs, and provide comfort and support to patients during procedures.
- Specimen Management: Handle, label, and transport surgical specimens to the laboratory for analysis.
- Postoperative Cleanup: Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment according to hospital protocols and prepare the room for the next procedure.
Qualifications
- Certification: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program and current certification (CST or CMA) required.
- Experience: Previous experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center setting is highly preferred.
- Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to follow complex instructions.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift patients or equipment, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
