Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with precision and minimal discomfort.
- Verify patient identity and ensure all pre-draw procedures are followed for safety and compliance.
- Label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory for analysis in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean and sterile work environment, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
- Communicate effectively with patients to alleviate anxiety and explain procedures clearly.
- Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and report any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Document all collection data accurately into the EMR system.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification required.
- Active Louisiana State Phlebotomy License.
- High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program is preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on patient empathy and customer service.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs when necessary.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) is a plus.
