Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Accurately draw blood samples using venipuncture and capillary stick techniques while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Maintain Sterility: Strictly adhere to OSHA and CDC guidelines to maintain a sterile environment and prevent contamination.
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain procedures, and answer questions to alleviate anxiety and build trust.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport specimens to the lab for analysis, ensuring chain of custody is preserved.
- Documentation: Record patient data accurately into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of blood collection supplies (tourniquets, needles, tubes) and place orders as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with nurses, physicians, and lab technicians to ensure seamless patient care.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Credentials: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and CPR certification.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with diverse patient populations.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using EHR systems and blood collection equipment.
- Reliability: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and potential overtime as needed.
