Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with a focus on comfort and accuracy.
- Label, process, and transport blood specimens to the laboratory in strict accordance with chain-of-custody protocols and safety regulations.
- Greet patients warmly, explain procedures clearly to alleviate anxiety, and ensure a positive patient experience.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sterile work environment, including the daily cleaning of phlebotomy chairs and equipment.
- Verify patient information and specimen integrity prior to submission to the lab.
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff to ensure seamless patient care and timely test results.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification required (e.g., ASPT, NHA, ASCP).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in a busy healthcare or outpatient setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and computer applications.
