Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment & Care Planning: Conduct thorough patient assessments upon admission and throughout the stay to develop individualized care plans.
- Medication Administration: Safely and accurately administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and hospital protocols.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) documenting patient progress, symptoms, and interventions.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on diagnosis, treatment plans, and home care instructions to promote recovery and health literacy.
- Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Crisis Management: Respond swiftly to medical emergencies and changes in patient condition, utilizing critical thinking skills to prioritize care.
- Infection Control: Adhere strictly to hospital infection control policies and safety standards to protect patients and staff.
Qualifications
- Licensure: Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or compact state eligibility).
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification required at hire.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, families, and medical staff.
- Compassion: Demonstrated ability to show empathy, patience, and respect for patients from diverse backgrounds.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, and lift patients as necessary; good vision and manual dexterity.
- Computer Proficiency: Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic health record systems.
