Responsibilities
- Verify and verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to rendering services.
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10 and CPT guidelines.
- Prepare and submit claims to clearinghouses and insurance payers electronically.
- Monitor claims status, follow up on unpaid claims, and resubmit denied or rejected claims.
- Manage patient invoicing, handle patient inquiries, and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Collaborate with providers and office staff to ensure accurate documentation and coding.
- Stay updated on changes in healthcare laws, payer policies, and compliance regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and coding (Anchorage or remote experience a plus).
- Certification such as CPC, CBCS, or RHIT is highly desirable.
- Proficient in medical billing software (Epic, AthenaHealth, or similar) and clearinghouse portals.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote setting.
