Responsibilities
- Preparation: Prepare operating rooms by arranging sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies according to the surgeon's preferences.
- Surgical Assistance: Assist the surgical team during operations by passing instruments and supplies, holding retractors, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Patient Care: Monitor patients' vital signs and report any significant changes to the charge nurse or surgeon immediately.
- Instrument Care: Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to ensure the safety of the patient.
- Sterilization: Properly sterilize and disinfect surgical instruments and equipment to prevent infection and cross-contamination.
- Documentation: Accurately document surgical procedures and patient information in medical records.
- Transportation: Transport patients to and from the operating room and recovery areas safely.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Certification: Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) is required.
- Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a hospital or surgical setting preferred.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of surgical anatomy, aseptic technique, and medical terminology.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift patients weighing up to 250 lbs.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well under pressure.
