Responsibilities
- Preoperative Preparation: Set up the operating room with appropriate surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure a sterile environment.
- Assistance During Surgery: Pass instruments and materials to surgeons and surgical nurses, anticipating their needs during complex procedures.
- Sterile Processing: Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique and sterilization protocols to prevent infections.
- Instrument Management: Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures to ensure nothing is left in the patient.
- Patient Care Support: Escort patients to the operating room, assist with draping, and provide emotional support as needed.
- Postoperative Closure: Assist with wound closure and prepare the patient for transfer to the recovery area.
- Inventory Control: Monitor and restock surgical supplies to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) credential.
- Licensure: Active BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a hospital or surgical center setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in a variety of surgical procedures and ability to identify surgical instruments accurately.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure team environment.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move patients and equipment as necessary.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail regarding sterile field maintenance and patient safety.
