Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by setting up sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments and sterile gauze, retracting tissues, and counting sponges and needles.
- Monitor the operating room environment to ensure sterility and safety standards are met at all times.
- Ensure proper labeling of specimens and handling of hazardous materials according to hospital policy.
- Transport patients to and from the operating room and prepare them for anesthesia.
- Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to prevent retained foreign bodies.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team to ensure a smooth workflow.
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience in a surgical setting (preferred).
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Valid Arizona State License or eligibility to obtain one.
