Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons and nursing staff during surgical procedures by preparing the operating room and sterilizing equipment.
- Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique and aseptic principles throughout all surgical cases.
- Pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during operations.
- Prepare patients for surgery by positioning them safely and preparing incision sites.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure the operative field is secure and no foreign objects are retained.
- Monitor the operating room environment for safety hazards and report any irregularities immediately.
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required; Certifying Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (CBSTA) credentials preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in an acute care hospital or surgical center setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, and medical terminology.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work effectively under pressure in a high-volume environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse healthcare team.
