Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring all sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and functioning correctly.
  • Assist the surgical team during operations by passing instruments and materials to surgeons and first assistants.
  • Count sponges, needles, and instruments prior to and following the procedure to maintain accurate documentation and patient safety.
  • Maintain a sterile field by adhering to strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure procedures are conducted efficiently and without interruption.
  • Prepare and sterilize equipment and instruments using approved sterilization methods.

Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgical center setting.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical anatomy, sterile techniques, and instrument names and functions.
