Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring all sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and functioning correctly.
- Assist the surgical team during operations by passing instruments and materials to surgeons and first assistants.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments prior to and following the procedure to maintain accurate documentation and patient safety.
- Maintain a sterile field by adhering to strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure procedures are conducted efficiently and without interruption.
- Prepare and sterilize equipment and instruments using approved sterilization methods.
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgical center setting.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Strong knowledge of surgical anatomy, sterile techniques, and instrument names and functions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
