Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by arranging equipment and supplies and ensuring a sterile environment.
- Assist surgical team during procedures by passing instruments and other sterile supplies.
- Monitor patient vital signs and report any changes to the charge nurse or surgeon immediately.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments prior to and after surgery to maintain accurate counts.
- Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and sterilizing incision sites.
- Handle specimens for lab analysis and ensure proper disposal of biohazard materials.
- Close incisions with sutures or staples and apply dressings.
Qualifications
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Operating Room Technician (COR) certification.
- Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a hospital or surgical center setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
