Responsibilities
- Assess patient symptoms and medical histories via phone, telehealth, or in-person triage to determine urgency and care priority
- Provide accurate medical guidance and education to patients based on established clinical protocols
- Coordinate with physicians, specialists, and emergency services to ensure timely patient flow
- Maintain detailed electronic health records while adhering to HIPAA compliance standards
- Oversee patient waiting areas and manage bed assignments in emergency departments
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives for triage processes
- Train and mentor new triage staff on best practices and emergency procedures
Qualifications
- Current California RN license with minimum 3 years clinical experience
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications
- Proven expertise in emergency/trauma assessment and critical decision-making
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to de-escalate anxious patients
- Proficiency in Epic or similar electronic health record systems
- Strong knowledge of EMTALA compliance and emergency department protocols
- Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments with competing priorities
