Responsibilities
- Verify and code patient demographics and insurance information accurately using ICD-10 and CPT guidelines.
- Prepare and submit claims to various payers (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) via electronic and paper methods.
- Monitor claim status and follow up on pending claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Research and appeal denied or rejected claims to resolve issues and maximize revenue.
- Manage patient billing inquiries, process payments, and handle account reconciliations.
- Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance policies.
- Collaborate with the billing team to identify trends and improve revenue cycle efficiency.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Medical Billing, Coding, or Health Information Technology (or equivalent experience).
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS credential is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing or a related revenue cycle role.
- Proficiency with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or AthenaHealth.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and insurance terminology.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
