Responsibilities
- Verify and Submit Claims: Accurately review and submit medical claims to insurance payers (CMS-1500 and electronic submissions).
- Follow-up: Monitor claim status and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Patient Billing: Generate and mail statements to patients for outstanding balances and explain billing inquiries.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain organized and up-to-date patient records and financial documentation.
- Denial Management: Analyze denied claims to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Compliance: Ensure all billing practices comply with HIPAA regulations and internal policies.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration or Medical Billing preferred.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in medical billing or healthcare finance.
- Certifications: Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding is highly desirable.
- Software: Proficiency in medical billing software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients and insurance companies.
- Legal: Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality.
