Responsibilities
- Claims Management: Accurately and timely submit claims to insurance payers (including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurers) using electronic and paper methods.
- Payer Relations: Follow up on unpaid and underpaid claims, research denial reasons, and initiate appeals to maximize revenue collection.
- Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services to ensure seamless billing cycles.
- Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal billing compliance standards to protect patient privacy and organizational integrity.
- Patient Billing: Communicate clearly with patients regarding outstanding balances, statements, and payment plans.
- System Proficiency: Utilize EHR systems (like AthenaHealth or EPIC) to document billing activities and track claim status.
Qualifications
- Certification: CBCS, CPC, or CPC-H certification preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, medical coding, or medical office administration.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in medical billing software and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines, as well as HCPCS Level II codes.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients and insurance representatives.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to detect discrepancies in data.
