Responsibilities
- Verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information accurately into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Review medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes to ensure accurate billing.
- Submit claims to insurance carriers (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial) and follow up on pending claims.
- Analyze and resolve denied claims or rejected codes to maximize revenue collection.
- Communicate with patients regarding billing questions, statements, and payment plans in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal coding guidelines.
- Participate in monthly audits to ensure billing accuracy and identify areas for process improvement.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) certification preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, coding, or medical office administration.
- Thorough knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and insurance billing practices.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) software such as Epic, AthenaHealth, or Cerner.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to detect errors in data entry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for patient interaction.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Healthcare Administration is a plus.
