Responsibilities
- Patient Collection: Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages, ensuring a positive and professional experience.
- Sample Handling: Properly label, process, and transport blood samples to the laboratory following strict safety and quality protocols.
- Documentation: Accurately record patient information, medical history, and test results into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Infection Control: Adhere to strict hygiene standards and OSHA regulations to maintain a sterile environment.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and restock phlebotomy supplies, ensuring that all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Customer Service: Communicate effectively with patients and staff to explain procedures and alleviate anxiety.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current New York State Phlebotomy Technician Certification required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical or laboratory setting preferred.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is a plus.
- Skills: Proficient in venipuncture techniques; strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Licensure: Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
