Responsibilities
- Perform routine venipunctures, capillary draws, and arterial blood gas collections with precision and patient comfort in mind.
- Verify patient identity and accurately label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory for analysis.
- Greet patients warmly, explain procedures clearly, and maintain a professional demeanor in high-pressure situations.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including OSHA standards and HIPAA compliance to ensure patient privacy.
- Maintain a clean and organized phlebotomy station, ensuring all equipment is calibrated and ready for use.
- Collaborate with nurses and physicians to ensure efficient patient flow and accurate reporting.
- Handle patient inquiries regarding test results and appointment scheduling with empathy and accuracy.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification required.
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Technology or Nursing preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and blood collection techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with diverse patient populations.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to navigate Electronic Health Records (EHR).
