Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages, including neonates, children, and adults, with precision and minimal discomfort.
  • Verify patient identity and medical history to ensure accurate specimen collection and test ordering.
  • Label, process, and transport blood specimens to the laboratory according to strict chain-of-custody protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitized phlebotomy area and ensure all equipment is calibrated and in proper working order.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures and alleviate anxiety regarding blood draws.
  • Assist nursing staff and physicians during patient rounds and emergency situations as required.
  • Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and restock as needed.

Qualifications

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification required (or equivalent state license).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in a hospital or outpatient setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to de-escalate patient anxiety.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus.
