Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring equipment sterility and functionality
- Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, retracting tissues, and maintaining sterile fields
- Perform sterile processing of surgical instruments and equipment according to AORN standards
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures to prevent retention
- Transport patients to and from operating rooms while maintaining comfort and safety
- Document all perioperative activities accurately in electronic health records
- Maintain inventory of surgical supplies and restock as needed
Qualifications
- Accredited Surgical Technology program graduate or equivalent military training
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
- Minimum 2 years of recent hospital-based OR experience
- Expertise in sterile processing and aseptic technique
- Ability to anticipate surgeon needs during complex procedures
- Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
