Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive telephone and in-person patient assessments to determine acuity level and appropriate care pathway
- Provide expert medical advice and triage services for diverse patient populations including pediatric, adult, and geriatric cases
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely patient flow and care coordination
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) documentation in compliance with HIPAA and hospital protocols
- Implement emergency response protocols for critical situations including cardiac arrest, stroke, and trauma cases
- Oversee patient waiting area management to optimize ED throughput and reduce wait times
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuous education programs
Qualifications
- Active Kentucky RN license with minimum 3 years emergency department or critical care experience
- BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required; PALS preferred
- Proven expertise in rapid patient assessment and triage protocols (ESI, ATPS)
- Exceptional critical thinking and decision-making abilities under pressure
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to de-escalate sensitive situations
- Proficient in Epic EHR systems and telehealth triage technologies
- BSN degree required; MSN or certification in Emergency Nursing (CEN) preferred
