Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with precision and patient comfort in mind.
- Verify patient identity and accurately label blood specimens for laboratory analysis and testing.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, safety protocols, and infection control standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients to alleviate anxiety and explain procedures clearly.
- Manage inventory of supplies (tourniquets, needles, vials) and ensure the phlebotomy station is fully stocked and organized.
- Document patient information, collection times, and results into electronic health records (EHR) accurately and timely.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is mandatory.
- Previous experience in a clinical, hospital, or outpatient setting is highly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) precisely.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact professionally with patients, physicians, and lab staff.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs when necessary.
